Atlanta Falcons Tickets- Falcons Hold off Panthers 28-20 by Brent Warnken

Matt Ryan threw three touchdown passes; he connected with Tony Gonzalez for the second week in a row and the Atlanta Falcons triumphed over the Carolina Panthers 28-20. Get Atlanta Falcons tickets and see Ryan throw a touchdown pass to Gonzalez. In the first two weeks, Gonzalez has 12 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns. The veteran tight end wanted to be traded by Kansas City. Gonzalez said it was a great start to the 2009-2010 season. He continued to say it's great to be a part of the Falcon's organization. Ryan had an excellent first half, which included an awesome fingertip grab by Gonzales on a 24-yard score. Running back Jason Snelling and wide receiver Roddy White also caught TD passes, giving the Falcons (2-0) a 21-13 lead at the break.

Ryan completed 13 straight passes at one point and threw for 21 of 27 for 220 yards. The sophomore quarterback, however, threw his first interception of the season. Gonzalez led Atlanta again with seven receptions for 71 yards. Ryan stated that the tight end was one of the greatest of all time. He continued to say Gonzalez made big plays for the Falcons in different situations when the team needed him. The QB added that he has enjoyed playing with his tight end thus far. Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme finished with 25 of 41 for 308 yards, but threw an interception with 2.5 minutes left of the game. The quarterback said his performance couldn't be any worse than last week.

He was referring to his four-interception and one-fumble debacle in a 38-10 loss to Philadelphia. Delhomme said he felt good playing against Atlanta. He acknowledged that he put too much pressure on himself against the Eagles, but he returned "to being just plain Jake" in week 2. Atlanta extended the lead to 28-13 in the fourth quarter when Michael Turner scored from the 1 yard line. But Carolina bounced back with a 10-play, 80-yard drive to cut the lead to 28-20. The Panthers were in a position to force overtime with a touchdown and two-point conversion when they had a first down at the Falcons 17. But Delhomme threw three straight incompletions which made it fourth-and-10. He tried to complete a pass to Steve Smith near the end zone, but Chris Houston picked it off at the four before being tackled out of bounds by Smith.

Carolina forced Atlanta to punt and had one last chance to tie the game. Delhomme completed four straight passes to get the ball to the Falcons' 43 with eight seconds left of the game. Delhomme had time for one more play. Atlanta had 6-foot-5 receiver Brian Finneran as an extra defensive back. Finneran and Brent Grimes jumped in the air together and swatted the ball down, and the ball was nearly caught by a Carolina receiver. Dwayne Jarrett made a desperate attempt to dive and cradle the ball as he rolled over, but it clearly hit the ground before he got his hands underneath the ball. Atlanta is 2-0 for only the second time in the last 11 years.
